Charles Omenihu enjoyed a stellar season for the Kansas City Chiefs before an unfortunate ACL tear prematurely ended his season. He finished with seven sacks and two forced fumbles in just 11 games and now is publicly bargaining for a new contract.

Appearing on Good Morning Football, Omenihu declared he felt worthy of a new contract and put himself just under the top tier of pass rushers in the NFL.

Given the negotiations the Chiefs must have with stars like Chris Jones and L'Jarius Sneed, this could throw a wrench into Kansas City's offseason plans moving forward.

Charles Omenihu Declares He's Worth a Contract Extension

The former San Francisco 49er signed a two-year, $16 million deal with the Chiefs last offseason and missed the first six games of 2023 due to a domestic violence suspension. He was excellent when he got back on the field, though his history combined with the ACL recovery makes this a curious time to ask for a new contract.

Aside from the potential new contracts for Jones and Sneed, Kansas City has a long list of free agents to make decisions on. Omenihu is still under contract for another year, so I'd be surprised if Veach goes to the table for a new deal.

George Karlaftis looks like a star and 2023 first-round pick Felix Anudike-Uzomah saw limited playing time. Given the resources the Chiefs already have committed to the defensive line, Omenihu likely isn't at the top of the priority list.

He said he viewed himself a tier below Nick Bosa, who signed a five-year contract for $170 million with San Francisco. If Omenihu is looking for anything close to that dollar amount, it'll almost certainly be coming from another organization.

For now, we're wishing Omenihu a speedy recovery so he can prove on the field next year that he's worth that kind of commitment.
