The Kansas City Chiefs prevailed against the Denver Broncos on Sunday night, and finally are able to say they won a Sunday Night Football game. This is yet another obstacle that the team has overcome to prove they’re legitimate.
What the heck happened last night?! The KC Chiefs were down eight points with under thirty seconds to go in the ball game and somehow tied it up and forced the Broncos to go into overtime.
From there, Cairo Santos kicked the game winning field goal in the final minute of overtime to give Kansas City their first Sunday Night Football win since the current format began ten years ago.
I’ll be happy to admit that I was wrong about this game – I thought for sure that the Chiefs would yet again embarrass themselves on national television, but they didn’t. They persevered and won this game and are 3-0 in the AFC West thus far.
This game showed me a lot about who these Kansas City Chiefs are, and it’s becoming clear that they’re ready for that next step. They’ve overcome a lot of obstacles in the past two seasons that have proven they’re legit and moving forward.

- They finally beat the Broncos last season after going 0-7 against them since Peyton Manning joined the orange crush. That game took place in Denver too, which was even bigger.
- Kansas City won a playoff game last season, destroying Houston 30-0 on their home turf and shredding that “chokes in the playoffs” label.
- Now the Chiefs can hopefully rid themselves of another label – the “bad in primetime” label that I especially have been harping all season long.
I’m glad to be wrong on this one. The Chiefs finally had their moment in primetime and showed the entire country that they’re here to stay.
Kansas City has beaten Oakland and Denver now, two teams contending for the AFC West title with them. If they can keep winning and Oakland can lose a few games down the stretch (plus the two still have a head-to-head game coming up), then there’s no reason the Chiefs can’t win the division.
You’d have to imagine that Raiders fans are a little more nervous after last night’s game. They had the advantage over Denver, and were probably rooting for them because of that. Now, however, the Chiefs are one game back, have the head-to-head match-up advantage, and are breathing down the Raiders’ necks.

The pressure is on Kansas City, yes, but it’s more so on Oakland because they haven’t been in this position before. Hopefully they choke and we can start calling them Choke-Land. Ha…
With this HUGE win against the Denver Broncos, the Kansas City Chiefs are officially in the running as one of the best teams in the NFL. Now to keep on proving it until there’s no one left in the running.
