Royals rumors will slowly start to pick up steam, but right now, most of them are concerning the team going after some starters to add to their rotation.

When it comes to Royals rumors, there’s really only one major need for the Kansas City Royals, and that’s in the rotation. The starters for the Royals have been awful this year, minus Danny Duffy, of course.

With that said, Steve Adams of MLB Trade Rumors mentioned on Friday that the team is indeed interested in adding some pieces before the trade deadline.

Some of the names mentioned in Adams’ article are Rich Hill of Oakland, Matt Moore of Tampa Bay, and Ervin Santana of Minnesota.

Jon Paul Morosi of MLB.com also linked the Royals with Jeremy Hellickson of Philadelphia, Jorge De La Rosa of Colorado, and Andrew Cashner of San Diego.

Out of all of these options, Rich Hill is having the best season with a 2.25 ERA with the Athletics. Matt Moore has been pitching better as of lately for the Rays, but has a 4.54 ERA, which is about what the average Royals pitcher has.

Ervin Santana was great when he pitched for Kansas City in 2013, but isn’t worth bringing back for a reunion. He’s had a rough season with the Twins and still has a pretty hefty contract remaining with them.

Jeremy Hellickson had a nice outing against the Royals, and has a 3.92 ERA. He wouldn’t be a terrible option, but still isn’t worth shelling out some big prospects for. Jorge De La Rosa isn’t even worth being mentioned as to giving up names for, and Andrew Cashner is on that same level honestly.

While it’s nice to see that the KC Royals are wanting to improve the rotation, none of these names are worth sacrificing a top prospect for. The Royals gave up five prospects last year in acquiring Johnny Cueto and Ben Zobrist, and the farm system is thin now. It’ll really drain the system if the Royals decide to pull the trigger and go after one of these mediocre starters.

Call me crazy and negative (or crazy negative), but I’d rather the Royals stand pat at the trade deadline and just play things out. Even if they do make the playoffs, this team isn’t the same as last year’s. They’re not good on the road, and they’ll likely make an early exit from the postseason.

Is that really worth giving up your top prospects for? Keep in mind how many big name Royals will likely be headed for the exits after the 2017 season. The farm system is the best hope at making sure this team doesn’t completely tank when that time comes.

Sure, all of the injuries have been unfair, but maybe that’s a sign that this just isn’t Kansas City’s year. That’s okay with me, seeing how the team hoisted the Commissioner’s Trophy last year. It might just be best to keep the farm system in place and continue working with what’s on the team.

What do you think, Royals nation? Do you want to see the Kansas City Royals make a trade of some kind?
