Kansas City Chiefs Scouting Report: Kentrell Brothers
The Kansas City Chiefs are always looking to keep their defense young and fresh. Could that be reason enough for them to go after Kentrell Brothers in the 2016 NFL Draft?
The Chiefs just re-signed inside linebacker Derrick Johnson and outside linebacker Tamba Hali to three-year deals. With that said, both guys will likely be nearing the end of their careers by the time those three years are up, so it might be time for Kansas City to look at what the future holds at the linebacker position.
Obviously Justin Houston is going to be a stud for several more years, but who else? The Chiefs should look at drafting Missouri Tiger linebacker Kentrell Brothers in one of the early rounds.
Brothers spent four years at the University of Missouri and became one of the team’s most reliable defensive players in his last two seasons. He ended his MU career with 357 tackles, 11 defended passes, five interceptions, four and a half sacks, and four forced fumbles.

Brothers led the nation in tackles per game during his junior season at Mizzou and earned second-team All-American rights. CBS Sports has Brothers being a second round pick, but NFL.com predicts him to go much later, in rounds four or five.
The Chiefs could really use someone like Kentrell Brothers on their defense. For one, he’s a local guy, playing four years in Columbia, Missouri, which is only two and a half hours from Kansas City. He’s originally from Oklahoma as well, adding to the Midwest locality theme.
Brothers also provides great coverage on special teams, which is likely where he’d be placed for his first season or two. He had three blocked kicks in 2015.
Brothers has shown he has the durability to play football too, starting 40 straight games spanning from 2013-2015. With injuries frequently piling up in the pros, having a durable guy like Kentrell Brothers could make a world of difference for the KC Chiefs.

Per Lance Zierlein of NFL.com,
"Really fun to watch on tape with many of the same play traits that made TCU’s Paul Dawson so productive last season. Brothers is a decisive, rhythm linebacker whose understanding of space and ability to improve his tackle positioning at the point of attack should make him a consistently productive inside linebacker in the pros. While Brothers will lack the speed and overall athleticism that some teams covet, it would be a huge mistake to value athleticism over instincts and production when evaluating Brothers."
Seeing how CBS Sports and NFL.com differ on where Brothers will be drafted is a little strange, but don’t be shocked if he’s someone that the Kansas City Chiefs take a long, hard look at. He’s tough and can make big plays down the stretch.
