KC Royals News: A Slow Time During Offseason

facebooktwitterreddit

The Kansas City Royals will host the New York Mets on Opening Night in just 11 days, yet the news concerning the Royals is pretty slow at the moment. Opening Night will be the first time ever that the two opponents from the World Series the season prior faced off in the opening series of the new season.

The Royals will get to raise their World Series flag on Opening Night, and then each player will receive his World Series ring on the Tuesday afternoon game, both against the Mets. The Mets players will have to stand there and witness as the team that beat them four games to one in the World Series just a few months ago, continue celebrating that accomplishment.

It feels good to be on the winning side of that situation, doesn’t it? I remember seeing clips of the San Francisco Giants celebrating their Opening Day last year, and watched as Madison Bumgardner rode in on a white horse, carrying a Giants flag. It was painful to watch, and I hoped to never have to witness anything like that ever again.

Position battles are still up in the air, though it’s been reported that Omar Infante might have the edge at second base, according to CBS Sports.

As for everything else, we’ll just have to see how the rest of spring training plays out.

With spring training coming to a close and Opening Night approaching, the Kansas City Royals will have their work cut out for them when it comes to choosing a second baseman, a potential platoon right fielder, and filling out the rest of the rotation.

The good news is that this year, the KC Royals aren’t trying to avenge anything. They won it all in 2015, and can sit back and enjoy being World Champions for another eight months at least.
