Kansas City Chiefs Scouting Report: A’Shawn Robinson

facebooktwitterreddit

The Kansas City Chiefs could decide to build on their defense in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft. If they decide to go in that direction, A’Shawn Robinson out of Alabama would be a great choice.

A’Shawn Robinson is a big dude and is just the type of defensive tackle that NFL teams dream of drafting. It’s that reason why Robinson is the top rated defensive tackle in the draft and a top ten prospect overall.

Robinson could be drafted by any team and still be a starter for them. He’s gigantic at 312 pounds and 6’4″ tall, and already looks like he’s NFL ready.

Robinson played for the Alabama Crimson Tide and earned a National title this past season. He had 46 tackles, three and a half sacks, and defended two passes. He’s foregoing his senior season and entering the draft early, but can anyone really blame him?

The chances of A’Shawn Robinson making it to the 28th pick are laughable. He’ll likely be scooped up within the first 15 picks and CBS Sports sees him landing somewhere in the NFC South. Dane Brugler has him going 12th overall to the New Orleans Saints and Rob Rang predicts he’ll be the Atlanta Falcons’ first round pick.

The KC Chiefs have a lot of free agents this offseason, and a large portion of them are on the defensive side of the ball. Depending on how all of that works out, the Chiefs could definitely be in need of A’Shawn Robinson’s NFL services and could opt to trade up for the former Crimson Tide standout.

While it would be nice to see a guy at Robinson’s stature join an already terrifying Chiefs team, he’s got top ten talent, and he’ll probably be long gone by pick 28, unless he bombs at the combine. I doubt that is going to happen though.

Being as large as Robinson is makes it hard for offensive linemen to block him. He’s able to create space so that the linebackers can get after the ball carrier and that would be a great addition to the KC Chiefs defense.

Some of Robinson’s weaknesses are that he’s too much of a thinker and can often be late to the party when it comes to making a big play. He also gets extremely worn out and his stats really aren’t that impressive.

His size and motivation on the field make A’Shawn Robinson a prime pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. Would you want to hear the Kansas City Chiefs call his name on draft day?
