Kansas City Chiefs Scouting Report: Laquon Treadwell
The Kansas City Chiefs hold the 28th overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. Will they decide to upgrade at the wide receiver position and draft Laquon Treadwell?
This time last year, fans of the Kansas City Chiefs were really hoping that their favorite team would break tradition and draft a playmaker – more specifically a wide receiver – in the first round.
While the team did end up taking a playmaker in Marcus Peters, there is still hope within the fans that John Dorsey will want to add another wide receiver to the roster. Jeremy Maclin has one starting spot locked down, but it’s between Chris Conley and Albert Wilson for the other spot.
What if, however, the KC Chiefs decided to go after Laquon Treadwell in the 2016 NFL Draft? Treadwell, a junior from Ole Miss, is considered the best wide receiver in this draft and the sixth best prospect overall. In other words, he’s going to be high on most teams’ draft boards.
NFL teams are always looking for a boost at wide receiver, and with 1,153 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns this past year, Treadwell will be a hot commodity come draft day.

It’s incredibly unrealistic to even link the Chiefs with Treadwell. He’s a top ten talent, and Kansas City won’t be on the clock until the fourth to last pick in the draft. There is absolutely no way that he will drop that far, and if he does, there’s probably a good reason for it.
If the Chiefs want to select Laquon Treadwell, they’ll have to trade up to get him, and I don’t see that happening at all.
For the sake of the scouting report though, let’s say Treadwell does have a chance at landing in Kansas City. The guy is a freakish athlete, both well built and good at catching the football. He’s the kind of guy who is able to run after a catch and is great with screen passes. He’s also a great blocker, which would be welcomed news to fans of Chiefs football.
Some of Treadwell’s weaknesses are that he’s not quite an efficient route-runner yet. He also sustained a pretty nasty injury at the end of the 2014 season, but appeared to be just fine this past season.

While the chances of the Kansas City Chiefs drafting Laquon Treadwell aren’t high, he’d easily provide this team with a solid number two receiver. Imagine Maclin and him lining up on opposite sides every week… Alex Smith would love that, I’m sure.
As of now, Treadwell has been linked to the San Francisco 49ers and to the Los Angeles Rams (that’s weird to type). Both would be good fits for Treadwell, as both are kind of in an offensive rebuilding mode.
