The Kansas City Chiefs could be losing a lot of free agents this offseason, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Should they consider drafting Myles Jack?

The Chiefs have been a team known for their defensive prowess for many seasons now, and fans are hoping that continues. As we’ve seen the past few years, a good defense can win you a Super Bowl, even with a mediocre offense.

With that said, could the KC Chiefs decide to target UCLA outside linebacker Myles Jack with their first round pick? The Chiefs don’t draft until pick 28, but with Jack being considered a top five prospect and best linebacker prospect, he could see teams trading up to draft him.

Jack, a junior at UCLA, is opting to forego his senior season so that he can enter the draft early, but he is still recovering from a knee injury that ended his junior season early.

Jack is one hell of a linebacker though. He’s extremely athletic and has the ability to cover tight ends. He only had one sack in three seasons with the Bruins, but he had four interceptions, 19 defended passes, and had 178 total tackles.

An interesting aspect to Jack is that he could also potentially play running back for a team (although that really wouldn’t be in the KC Chiefs’ best game plan to do that).

Some of the more worrisome traits concerning Jack are that he lacks the linebacker size, and his injury is troublesome too. He only played in three games this past season due to said injury, which of course is going to make teams cautious of drafting him.

Why would the Chiefs be looking at an injured linebacker? Well, because Tamba Hali is a free agent, and that would thrust Dee Ford into the starting role permanently. Ford was drafted just two years ago to fill that spot, but he hasn’t looked like a starting outside linebacker in the few games he’s started.

Jack is a young and enthusiastic player. Let Justin Houston mentor him and the Kansas City Chiefs could have an absolutely monstrous duo at outside linebacker on their hands. The team will need to keep their defense strong in order to contend with the Super Bowl winning Broncos, the on the rise Raiders, and the rebuilding Chargers.

With Myles Jack considered as a top five prospect, he’ll likely land with one of the teams drafting in those spots. The Dallas Cowboys, who have the fourth overall pick, could be a good landing spot for Jack due to their need to stack up their defense a little more. He’d also fit in well with the Chargers, who are drafting third overall.

Myles Jack was a great linebacker in college, but his injury last season could scare teams away. There’s a slight chance he could fall to the Chiefs, but more than likely, he’ll be off the board after ten picks.
