Kansas City Chiefs: Is Ace Sanders A Possible Target
The Kansas City Chiefs continue to look for some veteran names to add in free agency, and Ace Sanders could be one of those names. Sanders was recently released by the Jacksonville Jaguars on Friday, according to NFL.com.
Sanders, a fourth round pick for the Jaguars in 2013, was mainly used as a special teams guy during his two years with the team. Jackonville head coach Gus Bradley had said that Sanders was looking better during the off season (see NFL.com link above) so his release came as a bit of a surprise.

While the Chiefs already have De’Anthony Thomas fielding punts and Knile Davis handling kick return duties, Sanders could still be utilized in Kansas City. For one, he’s a young guy. He was drafted in 2013 and has seen quite a bit of playing time for a fourth round pick.
Sanders had a decent rookie season in 2013, hauling in 51 receptions for 484 yards and one touchdown. His sophomore season wasn’t too good though, as he only had six receptions for 55 yards. Sanders missed four games in 2014 due to violating the league’s substance-abuse policy, according to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk.
Right now, wide receiver is still a need for the Kansas City Chiefs. Jeremy Maclin is the obvious number one starter, with either Albert Wilson or Chris Conley getting the nod at the second starting spot. Ace Sanders would not be a starter, but he could likely compete for a slot receiver spot.
If I’m being completely honest, I don’t really see the Chiefs going after Sanders. He’s a young guy, yes, but he didn’t see a ton of success with a team who had some talent on the offensive side of the ball (I’m aware I’m talking about the Jaguars by the way).

I say if the Chiefs are going to add any type of free agent wide receiver, they should go big and sign James Jones. I recently wrote up my thoughts on possibly signing Jones, and it would make sense for a team that needs wide receiver help.
Sanders, however, could be just what Kansas City is looking for. He’s a young guy, eager to learn, and could be a quick target for Alex Smith on the field.
Regardless of what happens with this situation, Ace Sanders is still young to be out of the league. I imagine he’ll find a new team within the next few weeks leading up to the first preseason game of the 2015 season.
