KC Chiefs: James Jones Still On The Market

facebooktwitterreddit

The KC Chiefs locked up their top defensive guy on Wednesday morning, but they still could use some help on the offensive side of the ball. Yes, Jeremy Maclin should help significantly in the passing game, but why stop there? Former Packers and Raiders wide receiver James Jones is still available and could fit in great in Kansas City.

Jones, a once fantastic receiver for the Green Bay Packers, had a down year with the Oakland Raiders in 2014. After a disappointing year, the Raiders waived Jones and he has been on the free agency market ever since.

  • I have been pretty vocal about how Kansas City should bring James Jones in because the guy still has some fight left in him and could do wonders for this Chiefs offense. It’s not that I don’t think Maclin will be good, but he can’t do it all.

Plus, who is set to start on the opposite side? More than likely it’ll be second year man Albert Wilson or rookie Chris Conley, and anyone would probably agree that Jones is the best option out of those three.

Imagine the Chiefs’ offense’s production in 2015 when Alex Smith has Maclin, Jones, Travis Kelce, and Jamaal Charles as weapons on the field (you could also factor in Knile Davis as well). That would be one tough offense to match the tough defense the Kansas City Chiefs will put onto the field in 2015.

Many fans seem optimistic about this upcoming season (myself included) and adding a guy like James Jones would give fans even more hope about 2015.

Jones would instantly upgrade the KC Chiefs’ receiving corps and would make Kansas City a contender in 2015.

What’s so great about Jones, you ask? Well, in eight seasons in the NFL, he’s racked up nearly 5,000 yards receiving and hauled in 43 total touchdowns. His best year came in 2012 when he had 784 receiving yards and 14 total touchdowns with the Green Bay Packers.

Jones only had three touchdowns the next season and only six with the Raiders in 2014, but that’s still pretty impressive considering he had a rookie quarterback throwing the ball to him.

Jones would instantly upgrade the KC Chiefs’ receiving corps and would make Kansas City a contender in 2015. The fact that he’s still on the market is surprising to me, but perhaps some teams are worried about his age (he’s 31) and his declining production over the last two years.

With all of that said, I still think James Jones would be a nice addition to the Kansas City Chiefs’ roster and while he wouldn’t be the main receiver (that honor goes to Jeremy Maclin), he could easily go out there and grab a few touchdowns from Alex Smith in critical moments.

What do you think Chiefs Kingdom? Would you want to see James Jones in a Kansas City Chiefs uniform?
