Kansas Jayhawks: Latest Updates On The 2016 Targets

The Kansas Jayhawks are currently undefeated in play at the World University Games in South Korea, but that doesn’t stop assistant coach Norm Roberts from recruiting. The fall signing period is almost here and the Jayhawks are looking to nab some early commits.

247Sports’ Class of 2016 number one recruit Harry Giles, has Kansas in his top eight, according to Ricky O’Donnell of SB Nation. He is a 6’10” power forward that uses his height and strength to put up points, according to O’Donnell.

"While still only a junior in high school, Giles has been thought of as an elite talent for a while. He has recovered well since suffering a devastating knee injury at the FIBA World Championships for Team USA’s U-16 squad in Uruguay in June of 2013; he tore his ACL, MCL and meniscus."

It will be a long shot for KU to sign Giles, but being in the top eight for the stand out high school player still shows there’s a chance he could be a Jayhawk. Giles very well could decide to stay in state to play with Duke, North Carolina or Wake Forest, all of whom are in his top eight selections.

Josh Jackson is KU’s top target and is the most likely of recruits to sign with Kansas.

He is a 6’7” small forward and is the second ranked recruit on 247 sports’ list. Most scouts think he should be at the top because of his versatility and all around ability, but he somewhat lacks the strength of other players his size.

His top two choices at the moment are Kansas and Arizona. The Detroit native could land in the desert or the Midwest, as Kansas has a 70 percent chance to sign him according to 247’s Crystal Ball predictions.

De’Aaron Fox is probably the quickest athlete in the 2016 class.

The 6’4” guard can play at the one and two positions, similar to KU’s current point guard Frank Mason III who has learned to play both positions.

His top three are Kansas, Texas, and Louisville according to 247, with UT leading the way, followed by KU. He hasn’t officially visited Lawrence as of now, but that will soon change.

Terrance Ferguson is a 6’7” shooting guard who can also play small forward. He has a pretty big list of possibilities as of now, including Kansas, SMU, Louisville, and Oklahoma State.

He has an unusual amount of bounce which is shown is this video. His ability to be a two way player allows him to score in the paint and on the perimeter. Ferguson and Fox are the two best players in the state of Texas, according to 247, so nabbing those two would be huge for the Jayhawks.

The 2016 recruiting class is full of talent and could be one of the best all around in a while.

KU will lose Perry Ellis as well as maybe one or two from the freshman class, and any of these players would be great to fill in the missing pieces.

Jackson will be KU’s top target because of the lack of small forwards on the roster.
