Kansas City Chiefs Scouting Report: Kevin White

The 2015 NFL Draft is quickly approaching, and the Kansas City Chiefs have several different directions they can go with their first round pick. If the Chiefs decide to go with a wide receiver, then Kevin White might be the best available in this year’s crop of receivers.

White played his college football at West Virginia and played for two years with the Mountaineers. During those two years, he had 144 receptions for 1,954 yards and 15 touchdowns. White had 1,447 of those receiving yards during the 2014 season and also had 10 touchdowns as a senior.

More than likely, Kevin White won’t be coming to Kansas City (at least not in a Chiefs uniform) and I bet he is selected somewhere in the top 10.

Lance Zierlein of NFL.com compares White to DeAndre Hopkins of the Houston Texans, who had a great 2014 season. Looking at that comparison, it’s hard not to want Kevin White in a Chiefs jersey in 2015, but it’s not going to be an easy feat.

"White had a spectacular senior season with 109 receptions and 1,447 receiving yards, finishing third and sixth, respectively, in the nation in 2014. Was one of three finalists for the Biletnikoff award (best receiver). He started the season with seven consecutive 100-yard receiving games, a school record. He set the school record for catches in a game with 16 receptions vs. Texas on Nov. 8, 2014. Missed the first game of his junior season with a shoulder injury after joining West Virginia from Lackawanna College. Played in 24 career games, starting 22 in his two seasons with West Virginia.– Zierlein’s overview of Kevin White"

White has lately been projected as the best wide receiver in the draft, and was slated as the fourth overall pick by Mel Kiper Jr. in his most recent mock draft. That particular mock had White going to the Oakland Raiders, which would not be good for the Kansas City Chiefs, as they face the Raiders twice a year.

Basically, there’s a very slim chance of the Chiefs landing White, which is a shame. Before his outrageous Combine results, White was being linked to the Kansas City Chiefs frequently in mock drafts, including Todd McShay’s first mock draft back in late January.

At the time, McShay had this to say about White being the Chiefs’ first round selection,

"“White would upgrade the receiving corps with his excellent size-and-speed combo. He still needs to develop as a route runner but is a natural when it comes to separating from coverage when the ball is in the air. White is also dangerous after the catch, which adds to his value for a team in need of perimeter playmakers.”"

Obviously now, the Chiefs have Jeremy Maclin as apart of their receiving roster, but having a guy like White would take this offense from good to dangerous pretty quickly. With Maclin being on the team now though, will the Chiefs decide to go with a receiver in the first round? If they do, will White be on the board still by that point?

More than likely, Kevin White won’t be coming to Kansas City (at least not in a Chiefs uniform) and I bet he is selected somewhere in the top 10. After the crazy Combine results this kid put up, you really can’t blame teams for thinking he’s the best receiver in the draft this year.
