Missouri Tigers Running Back Marcus Murphy enjoyed a five year career in college, but will be looking to make the next step into the NFL through the 2015 NFL Draft. Murphy had a productive career for the Tigers, but an underwhelming 2014 season could really hurt his draft stock.

2010

Missouri got solid production from Murphy during the 2010 season. He managed 22 Carries, 181 Yards, 8.2 Average, and two Touchdowns rushing.

His biggest contribution came on special teams, and mainly as the Kick Return man. He had 24 Returns, 475 Yards, 19.8 Average.

2011

Murphy missed the entire 2011 season due to a shoulder injury he suffered in preseason workouts in July.

2012

Murphy came back strong in 2012, and nearly doubled his production from his 2010 Freshman season. He had 46 Carries, 251 Yards, 5.5 Average, and one Touchdown rushing.

He had a huge impact on special teams as both the Kick Return and Punt Return man. On Kick Return duty he had 19 Returnes, 458 Yards, 24.1 Average, and one Touchdown. On Punt Return duty he had 27 Returns, 374 Yards, 13.9 Average, and three Touchdowns.

He finished 3rd in total punt return yards in the entire NCAA, 1st in punt return touchdowns in the NCAA, and 1st in the South Eastern Conference in kick off returns for a touchdown.

He was named a 2nd Team All-American, and 1st Team All-SEC thanks to his stellar season as a return man.

His biggest play of the season came on his lone kick return for a touchdown which went for 98 yards against eventual National Champions Alabama.

2013

Murphy’s 2013 Junior season saw him utilized heavily on the offensive side of the ball. He finished with 92 Carries, 601 Yards, 6.5 Average, and a career high nine Touchdowns. He added 11 Receptions, 79 Yards, and one Touchdown receiving.

Following an unbelievable season in the return game, Murphy was once again handed the reigns as the main return man. He finished with 27 Kick Returns, 599 Yards, 22.2 Average, and no Touchdowns. He also had 21 Punt Returns, 146 Yards, 7.0 Average, and no Touchdowns.

Despite a disappointing season in the return game, Murphy led Missouri in All-Purpose Yards with 1,425.

2014

More from Chiefs Draft Analysis

Missouri gave Murphy the opportunity to be the main man on the offensive side of the ball for his Senior season, and while being productive he was underwhelming.

He finished with 177 Carries, 924 Yards, 5.2 Average, and four Touchdowns rushing. He had a career high year in the receiving game with 28 Receptions, 212 Yards, 7.6 Average, and one Touchdown.

Once again Murphy was relied on in the return game, and he rewarded Missouri for their loyalty. He had 17 Kick Returns, 504 Yards, 29.6 Average, and a career high two Touchdowns. He also had 27 Punt Returns, 281 Yards, 10.4 Average, and one Touchdown.

Much like fellow Missouri Tiger Henry Josey in 2014, there is a very real chance that Murphy goes undrafted in the 2015 NFL Draft. The 2015 NFL Draft class features a great Running Back group that really hurts his chances.

Murphy’s best chance of being drafted is as a return man in the 6th or 7th round. He is ranked as the 238th overall prospect, 21st best running back prospect, and is currently projected as a seventh rounder in the 2015 NFL Draft according to CBS Sports.
