KC Chiefs News: 2016 NFL Draft Is Getting Closer

facebooktwitterreddit

KC Chiefs news is still lagging a bit, but that’s what the offseason brings after all, especially just weeks after the Super Bowl.

One thing that fans can look forward to in the coming months, however, is the 2016 NFL Draft. The Kansas City Chiefs hold the 28th overall pick this year, which is the fourth last pick in the first round (New England forfeited their pick due to the DeflateGate scandal).

Since his time as the KC Chiefs’ general manager, John Dorsey has made fairly surprising picks. Eric Fisher was the only one that fans were somewhat expecting, and that was only because the team had the first overall pick, so there was a lot of media attention surrounding it.

The Dee Ford and Marcus Peters selections came as complete shocks to the fan base though. Both years everyone expected the Chiefs to go with a wide receiver, and both years, the Chiefs went with a defensive player.

That’s why this season, it might be best to just keep an open mind as far as what the Chiefs can do in the first round. After all, Marcus Peters has panned out well so far, right?

With the draft just months away, that and free agency are really the only topics of conversation occurring right now for Chiefs Kingdom. Fortunately, free agency will be starting soon, and the draft shortly after that.

Will Chiefs draft Alex Smith replacement? [Chris Clark, Arrowhead Addict]

"The Chiefs have decisions a plenty to make this offseason that will define how far they are able to go for the next couple of seasons. Drafting a quarterback in the first round could give them flexibility and the ability to move on from Alex Smith if they deem his contract too expensive."
