KC Chiefs: Six Drafted Players Officially Sign With Team

A full week has passed since the 2015 NFL Draft and the KC Chiefs have signed six of their nine draft picks to contracts for the 2015 season and beyond, according to Terez Paylor of the Kansas City Star.

The six players who have signed are offensive lineman Mitch Morse, inside linebacker Ramik Wilson, inside linebacker D.J. Alexander, tight end James O’Shaughnessy, defensive tackle Rakeem Nunez-Roches, and wide receiver Da’Ron Brown.

Yet to sign for the team are cornerbacks Marcus Peters and Steven Nelson, and wide receiver Chris Conley.

Some fans weren’t too impressed with this year’s draft class, but it’s still nice to see so many of these young guys already signed and ready to get to work this spring. The Chiefs had nine total picks and did a decent job at drafting needs for each side of the ball.

John Dorsey drafted a pair of cornerbacks, a pair of inside linebackers, and a pair of wide receivers, and also grabbed a versatile offensive lineman in Mitch Morse as well as a tight end and a defensive tackle.

It is interesting to see that three of the first four picks for the Kansas City Chiefs are the only three who remain unsigned. I’m sure it’s just a coincidence, but it is still somewhat interesting. Peters was the team’s first round selection, and Conley and Nelson were both third rounders.

The amounts of the contracts haven’t been revealed yet, but Joel Thorman of Arrowhead Pride wrote up a post last week about how much the players drafted last year in the same spot earned.

It’s nice now that the rookie wage scale is in place because it used to take some time to sign rookies, as they wanted big contracts. Some would even hold out throughout the early stages of the off-season until they were offered a contract to their liking.

In other words, it shouldn’t be too long before the KC Chiefs get the other three rookies inked officially. The rookie minicamp is coming up in just a few days (May 16th-18th) so hopefully everything will be squared away by that point.

The Chiefs also have signed 10 undrafted free agents, as of Monday evening according to Arrowhead Pride. Notable positions includes two wide receivers (Kenny Cook of Gardner-Webb and Donatella Luckett of Harding), Justin Cox (defensive back out of Mississippi State), and Garrett Frye, a center out of Georgia Southern.
