Perfect Wide Receiver Trade Target for Chiefs May Soon Be Available

The Kansas City Chiefs are desperate for some wide receiver help. Fortunately, it looks like the perfect trade target could be available ahead of the Nov. 5 deadline.

The Kansas City Chiefs had one of the more promising on-paper wide receiver groups during the offseason. Fast forward to Week 5 and the WR room has been decimated by injuries with Rashee Rice and Marquise Brown both finding themselves on the injured list, leaving the Chiefs scrambling to find a way to improve their situation.

This year's trade deadline is on Nov. 5, meaning the defending Super Bowl Champions have a month to find some wideout help. The Chiefs have already been linked to several big names — from Amari Cooper to Davante Adams — however, one NFL insider is listing a new AFC name as a potential trade target for Andy Reid & Co.

Chiefs Trade Rumors: Should Kansas City Target Jaguars WR Christian Kirk?

Jason La Canfora of the Washington Post is reporting that the "Jacksonville Jaguars are starting to get calls about Christian Kirk." The veteran pass-catcher signed a four-year, $72 million contract with the Jaguars as a free agent back in 2022.

According to La Canfora, one NFL general manager wouldn't be surprised if the Chiefs acquired Kirk. The source described the 27-year-old playmaker as an "Andy Reid receiver" who "fits what they do."

Even though the Jaguars don't necessarily want to trade Kirk, it might be in their best interest to explore their options. Jacksonville is heading into Week 5 with an 0-4 record and nothing about their recent performances suggests that the skid is ending soon. If the team's freefall continues, trading Kirk to recoup some draft picks makes a lot of sense.

It also makes sense for the Chiefs to target the ex-2018 second-rounder if there's even a chance that he's available.

If acquired, Kirk would immediately rise to the top of Kansas City's WR depth chart. The former Texas A&M product has played 43 career games between the Jaguars and Arizona Cardinals, catching 394 of his 605 targets (65.1%) for 4,966 receiving yards and 29 touchdowns. Although he had a slow start to the 2024 campaign, he's made 15 catches for 140 yards and a score in his last two games.

Patrick Mahomes would easily be the best quarterback that Kirk has played with, making it interesting to see if joining the Chiefs could take his game to the next level. Going from the winless Jaguars to a Super Bowl contender could also motivate the Scottsdale, AZ native to have a career year.

As the Kirk trade rumors continue to unfold ahead of the deadline, the Chiefs must focus on their Week 5 matchup against the New Orleans Saints. Even with the WR room riddled with injuries, the Chiefs are still the 5.5-point favorites over the Saints on FanDuel Sportsbook.
