With undrafted free agents quickly finding homes in the aftermath of the 2024 NFL Draft, Brett Veach and the Chiefs have been hard at work adding potential impact players to an already-impressive draft class.

Kansas City already signed a theoretical Jerick McKinnon replacement in TCU RB Emani Bailey, but they've also agreed to terms with a thunderous power back from UCLA, Carson Steele, who could take over in short-yardage situations that have plagued the Chiefs' offense over the last few seasons.

At 6'0", 228 LBs, Steele reportedly bench-presses 405 LBs and squats over 600, giving him a rare blend of strength and speed that could make him valuable in Kansas City.

Steele transferred to UCLA after rushing for 1,556 yards and 14 TDs at Ball State in 2022. He had 167 carries for 847 yards and six TDs with the Bruins, averaging 9.6 yards per catch in the passing game as well.

His power makes him a logical fit in short-yardage situations for the Chiefs, an area the team has significantly struggled with ever since Patrick Mahomes' knee injury made the coaching staff afraid to run QB sneaks.

Over the last two seasons, the Chiefs rank 25th in the NFL in short-yardage spots, finding success on only 52.4% of attempts. If Steele can be a solution to that problem, he'll quickly become one of the steals of the undrafted free agency period.

Considering Kansas City already shored up linebacking depth in addition to taking a swing on a talented 1,000-yard receiver, Brett Veach has prioritized filling needs with these free agent signings.

We'll see what kind of an impact Steele can make, but he's a name that Chiefs fans should quickly get familiar with in the months leading up to training camp.
