The Chiefs have been active in free agency, retaining many veteran players from last year's Super Bowl team and bringing in one of the best wide receivers on the market.

While the organization restructured Patrick Mahomes' contract to free up cap space and is still negotiating a potential L'Jarius Sneed trade, we now have two big updates on contracts for offensive lineman in 2024-25 relating to the salary cap.

Chiefs News: Joe Thuney and Jawaan Taylor Get Contract Updates

This was expected news but still has an impact on how the Chiefs can operate moving forward. Joe Thuney is widely regarded as one of the best offensive linemen in the entire NFL, while Taylor was a strong addition last offseason despite struggling with penalties.

Even after drafting LT Wanya Morris out of Oklahoma in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft, the Chiefs still need to address the offensive line in either free agency or the draft.

Donovan Smith, who started at LT last year, is not under contract. Kansas City may move forward with Morris at left tackle, though the organization needs to add depth after losing LG Nick Allegretti to the Commanders in free agency.

They have less money to work with over the next two seasons, though Thuney and Taylor are mainstays regardless. Thuney is under contract for just two more years while Taylor has three left, so it'll be interesting to see how Brett Veach bolsters the group before the season.

The Chiefs have +650 odds to win next year's Super Bowl, which would be the first time in NFL history that a team won three straight. If they ensure Patrick Mahomes will be protected behind another strong offensive line, those odds will feel like a bargain.
