Latest Rumor on L'Jarius Sneed is Too Good to Be True

The Kansas City Chiefs are having an excellent free agency so far with their main priorities taken care of and having added more playmaking on the offensive end. The most important question remaining, however, is the status of star cornerback L'Jarius Sneed.

The L'Jarius Sneed saga is still unresolved as of Saturday but we may now have a better idea for what the future holds for him and the Chiefs.

L'Jarius Sneed Closer to Staying in Kansas City After Negotiations Stall Elsewhere

Sneed is currently on a $19.8 million franchise tag. He is looking for a long-term contract extension after being given permission to seek a trade by the Chiefs.

It looks like that lucrative contract extension may not be coming elsewhere for Sneed.

The team that has been most often linked with the 27-year-old defender has been the Indianapolis Colts. Long-time Colts reporter Mike Chappell said earlier on Saturday that "nothing's going on" in Sneed-Indianapolis negotiations. This is not only due to the Chiefs' asking price but also Sneed's contract extension demands.

Titans are the other potential suitor, but there isn't much on that front, either, according to Sports Illustrated's Matt Verderame.

This significantly increases the likelihood of Sneed staying with the Chiefs, not only for next season but also long-term. Seeing that he doesn't have much of a market around the league, the former fourth-round pick might be more inclined to take a team-friendly deal from Kansas City.

If a team doesn't blow them away with an offer, the Chiefs should be thrilled to bring Sneed back. Kansas City currently has the second-best odds in the league to win the Super Bowl next season with +650. Sneed would certainly help them maintain their elite defense to get them closer to a historic three-peat.
