Perhaps the wide receiver the Chiefs planned to add was on the roster all along?

After resisting the temptation to swing a deal at the trade deadline, Kansas City elected to move forward with the receivers already in-house.

Based on today's injury update, it looks like the Chiefs are set to add Richie James back to the active roster soon.

Richie James Injury Update: Encouraging News for Chiefs Fans

James was hurt in the Chiefs' Week 2 win over the Jaguars and has been on the Injured Reserve List ever since. Now that he's participating in practice, the Chiefs have a 21 days to move him to the active roster.

Following pessimistic injury updates on Willie Gay Jr. and Jerick McKinnon, the positive news is a boon for a team in need of a spark.

Despite limited involvement in Week 1, James' profile fits this offense well. He had 57 catches for 569 yards and four TDs with the Giants last year, critically dropping only three passes on 70 targets.

The Chiefs lead the NFL in dropped passes (15), so James could alleviate a massive problem.

We'll see what actions Kansas City takes over the next few days, given rumors circulated this week that the front office was exploring trade possibilities with James. Nonetheless, he's still part of the team and we'll soon know what the organization's intentions are.

For a wide receiver room struggling to make a positive impact, I'm hopeful James can be part of the solution.
