The Chiefs suddenly have a spot available on their 90-man roster after releasing DT Isaiah Buggs due to his recent legal problems. Buggs never appeared in a game for Kansas City, so the decision to move on was an easy one.

While the team's roster is mostly set, Brett Veach and Andy Reid now have an opportunity to take a shot on a player ahead of training camp starting July 21.

This could create roster space for one of the talented undrafted rookies the Chiefs added, though there are a few free agents Kansas City should consider signing following the news as well.

3 Players the Chiefs Should Fill Isaiah Buggs' Roster Spot With

1. Shaq Lawson - DE

If the Chiefs want another body on the defensive line to replace Buggs, they could do far worse than Shaq Lawson. Originally a first-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, Lawson is an established pass rusher hoping to prove he still belongs on an NFL roster.

The former Buffalo Bill standout has received limited interest this offseason and remains a free agent. He's never achieved significant postseason success, so why not take a shot at a ring by joining the two-time defending Super Bowl champions?

Lawson's best days are behind him, though he's got 26 career sacks and is among the more accomplished defensive linemen on the market. The Chiefs could likely acquire him on a cheap, one-year deal, making it a win-win for both parties.

Since Buggs was a practice squad player anyway, the Chiefs could favor a young prospect to try to develop or they could take a swing on an established player like Lawson. They've got plenty of options, and the beauty of having one of the NFL's best rosters is that you're afforded flexibility.

Lawson's best season came in 2019 with Buffalo, compiling 32 tackles and 6.5 sacks. With Charles Omenihu working his way back from injury, Kansas City could use a veteran like Lawson at the beginning of the season.

Plus, wouldn't it be fun for the Chiefs to get production out of a former Bill and continue bullying their "rivals" up in Buffalo?
