The Chiefs suddenly may find themselves back in the market for a wide receiver if Marquise "Hollywood" Brown's shoulder injury proves to be significant.

Matt Nagy said that veteran WR Justin Watson would step up should Brown miss time, though Kansas City could need to add reinforcements if Brown winds up missing the first month of the season. It doesn't seem overly likely, but the Chiefs now must look at every option with such a difficult opening stretch on the schedule.

Despite Andy Reid's optimism, there are a few intriguing free agents the team could consider, especially following the news that Brown would miss up to six weeks.

3 Free Agent Wide Receivers Chiefs Should Consider

1. Hunter Renfrow

It's surprising that the former Raider is still available in free agency. He's an effective slot receiver and at only 28 years old, theoretically has plenty of good football left in him.

Renfrow immediately looked like a strong fit for the Chiefs after being released earlier in the offseason, though his market has been meager at best and he's still looking for a new team in the 2024-25 season.

An excellent route-runner with a keen understanding of spacing, Renfrow had 103 catches for 1,038 yards and nine TDs in 2021. He's failed to reach those heights in recent years, though Patrick Mahomes would be the best QB he's ever caught passes from by a healthy margin.

For a team like the Chiefs in need of a reliable, consistent receiver to help the offense while Brown is out, Renfrow is a logical option.

It's possible the team is comfortable with the guys on the roster, and this certainly could pave the way for a player like Justyn Ross to make the team. However, if Kansas City is serious about avoiding last season's mistakes, Brett Veach should at least give Renfrow a phone call.
