Andy Reid Shares Encouraging Hollywood Brown Injury Update on Monday
By Joe Summers
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid spoke to the media following Monday's practice, sharing a positive update on new WR Marquise "Hollywood" Brown after the shoulder injury he sustained in Saturday's preseason loss.
Reid said that Brown did not require surgery to fix his sternoclavicular joint dislocation, an encouraging update given Brown's importance to the offense.
While it's not clear if Brown will be ready to play in Week 1 against the Ravens on September 5, Reid wouldn't rule out the possibility.
Andy Reid Shares Positive Hollywood Brown Update
If Brown misses four weeks like Tyreek Hill did with the same injury in 2019, he'd be in line to return for Week 2 vs. the Bengals. Even if he does miss a game or two, that's an encouraging timeline given Brown needed to go to a local hospital for evaluation following the incident.
Nick Bolton, Justin Reid, and Kadarius Toney all returned to practice on Monday, meaning Kansas City is starting to get back to full strength after a slew of injuries over the last several weeks.
While he's only cleared 1,000 receiving yards once in his career, the former first-round pick is a dynamic vertical threat and the most accomplished receiver on the roster. Missing valuable time is never good when you're joining a new team, though it sounds like Brown avoided the worst-case scenario.
He's only on a one-year deal and hopes to earn a large payday following the season. In order to accomplish that goal, Brown has to be on the field as much as possible. The Chiefs hope their offense can return to the high-flying production of Patrick Mahomes' early years, and Brown's presence will play a big role in that.
More updates are expected to come from Reid during the week as the Chiefs prepare for their second preseason game on Saturday against the Lions.
