The Chiefs received discouraging news on WR Marquise "Hollywood" Brown's shoulder injury, as NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported on Tuesday that Brown will miss up to six weeks, though it could be as few as four.

Since Kansas City plays Baltimore in Week 1 three weeks from Thursday, Brown is now guaranteed to miss that game. He'll likely miss Week 2 against the Bengals and possibly Week 3 against the Falcons as well, throwing a wrench into the Chiefs' offensive plans during a critical point on the schedule.

Matt Nagy revealed that Justin Watson would step into Brown's role should the latter miss time, and we now know that he will.

Chiefs News: Hollywood Brown to Miss Up to Six Weeks

Not only will Watson need to step up, but Rashee Rice and rookie Xavier Worthy will be heavily relied upon as well. Rice is dealing with his own uncertain status regarding his potential suspension, though it looks less likely by the day that he'll serve one this season.

For Brown, the news is unfortunate for several reasons. He only signed a one-year deal in the offseason and hopes to land a large payday, but he can't prove his value if he's not on the field.

Patrick Mahomes is the best QB Brown has ever played with, and he'll miss valuable early-season reps as well as he tries to build chemistry in a new offense.

The Chiefs got off to a slow start in 2023, losing to the Lions thanks in large part to terrible receiver play. They want to avoid those headaches and Brown was meant to be an antidote to the problem.

Should the injury linger past his return timeline, Kansas City will have a much larger problem on its hands as the organization tries to become the first in NFL history to win three straight Super Bowls. As it stands, the Chiefs have the best odds at FanDuel Sportsbook (+600) entering the campaign.
