Patrick Mahomes spoke to the media immediately after the Chiefs' 30-24 overtime win over the Buccaneers, easing worried fans' minds a bit after the scary ankle injury he suffered during the contest.

While he was initially concerned about rolling the same ankle he hurt in Week 8, Mahomes said it wound up being not too bad. He returned to the game to lead Kansas City to another victory, though he still gave fans a heart attack when he hobbled to the sideline with a non-contact injury.

It sounds like he'll be fine for next week against the Broncos, at least based on his initial comments.

Patrick Mahomes Explains Ankle Injury vs. Buccaneers

"I was obviously running for the goal line," Mahomes said while explaining he was planning to run the ball initially. "At the last second, (I) saw Samaje and so, kind of awkwardly rolled the ankle a little bit."

Luckily his initial fears weren't confirmed. "Definitely scary, I think it hurt more just because it's the same ankle I rolled last week," he continued. "Once I...took my breath and kind of calmed down a little bit, it ended up being not too bad."

Thank goodness that was the case, because every Chiefs fan saw this season's life flash before their eyes. It was the best game of Mahomes' season, all things considered. He completed 34 of 44 passes for 291 yards and three TDs.

Most notably, he did not throw an interception. DeAndre Hopkins was masterful, scoring two TDs while looking like a superb trade acquisition. If this is the version of the offense we can expect to see, this team is well on its way to a third straight Super Bowl.

Mahomes just has to stay healthy the rest of the way.
