Football fans might be witnessing history in just over 24 hours. The Kansas City Chiefs will aim for a third consecutive Super Bowl victory when they collide with the Philadelphia Eagles in New Orleans on Sunday night, leaving time to tell if Andy Reid & Co. can achieve a feat no other team has done before.

While several Chiefs factored into the team's success this season, Marquise Brown is a player who fans would've liked to have seen more from. The veteran wide receiver missed the majority of the campaign with a shoulder injury, limiting him to just four appearances between the regular season and playoffs.

Brown, 27, is set to become a free agent following Super Bowl 59. Even though he's barely seen any action, the Chiefs could be interested in a re-signing and one player might be the difference-maker in the process.

Chiefs Rumors: Patrick Mahomes is Key to Re-Signing Marquise Brown

On Saturday, ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler reported quarterback Patrick Mahomes could be the key to re-signing Brown when free agency begins in March.

"The Chiefs very much want to keep receiver Hollywood Brown, who should have a good market due to teams' desire for speed options on the outside," Fowler wrote. "Mahomes advocated for signing Brown last year and will likely do so again."

It isn't a shock to learn that Mahomes vouched for Brown's signing last offseason. Despite having just won the second of back-to-back Super Bowls, the Chiefs' WR room was notoriously thin, leading to their signing the former 2019 first-round selection to a one-year contract worth up to $11 million.

Chiefs fans were hoping to see Brown make the most of his "prove yourself" contract. The ex-Oklahoma Sooner showed plenty of potential during his five seasons with the Baltimore Ravens and Arizona Cardinals, using his blistering speed to rack up 3,644 receiving yards and 28 touchdowns on 313 catches in 72 games.

Unfortunately, his shoulder injury forced Brown to miss the Chiefs' first 14 regular-season games. He was cleared to play in December and managed to suit up in Weeks 16 and 17, recording nine receptions for 91 yards without a touchdown before posting a 3-35-0 stat line in Kansas City's first two playoff games.

Brown's lackluster production can be chalked up to all the time he missed. It isn't unfathomable to imagine another 1,000-yard performance if he had stayed healthy and had a proper opportunity to foster chemistry with Mahomes and the rest of the Chiefs' offense.

The 2025 free agency period opens on March 12, meaning it won't be long before fans have a better sense of Brown's outlook. Considering that the Chiefs only have four WRs under contract for next season, there's a good chance that they'll try to convince Brown to stick around — especially if Mahomes wants him back.

In the meantime, the QB-WR duo will be focused on trying to bring another Lombardi Trophy to Kansas City. With just a day to go before Super Bowl 59, the Chiefs are still 1.5-point favorites over the Eagles in New Orleans, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
