Tuesday marks the NFL trade deadline and a lot of eyes are on the Kansas City Chiefs to see if they'll make any last-minute moves. The Chiefs are a perfect 8-0 to begin the season as they chase a potential third straight Super Bowl victory, so it wouldn't be surprising if general manager Brett Veach wants to add even more depth to head coach Andy Reid's arsenal.

The trade market isn't the only way for the Chiefs to add another player or two, though. It's the time of the NFL season when teams are cutting veteran players who no longer fit their plans, meaning Kansas City could opt to sign some free agents rather than trading away draft picks for help.

If the Chiefs are looking to sign another player to the roster, the perfect option just became available.

Chiefs News: Bills to Release S Mike Edwards

On Tuesday, NFL insider Tom Pelissero reported that the Buffalo Bills are releasing veteran safety Mike Edwards. According to Pelissero, the former 2019 third-rounder was given his release after asking for it from Bills management, which will happen barring a trade on Tuesday.

Chiefs fans are more than familiar with Edwards.

After beginning his NFL career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the former Kentucky/Hawaii product signed a one-year contract with Kansas City before the 2023 season. He amassed 39 solo tackles, seven defended passes, and two interceptions without missing a single playoff or postseason game, playing a role in the franchise's latest Super Bowl victory.

Edwards' 2023 performance earned him a one-year contract with the Bills this offseason. Much to his dismay, though, his role with his new team was practically non-existent. He only suited up in three of Buffalo's first nine games, logging just seven defensive snaps while playing 13 on special teams.

Even though the Bills are having a solid season, it's clear that Edwards is craving more responsibility. Although the Chiefs are already stacked on defense, the veteran defensive back could find opportunities to play in the secondary considering that Nazeeh Johnson is still in concussion protocol while Jaylen Watson is likely out for the rest of the year with a fractured ankle.

Given that the 2023 campaign was one of the best of his NFL career, it wouldn't be shocking if Edwards is open to reuniting with the Chiefs. Not only could joining Kansas City result in more playing time, but the Chiefs also offer him the best shot at winning his third championship ring.

After all, the Chiefs are heading into Week 10 with the best Super Bowl LIX odds (+420) on FanDuel Sportsbook.
