The Chiefs were dealt another brutal piece of injury news during Sunday's Week 8 win over the Raiders as CB Nazeeh Johnson suffered a concussion. He was the presumptive Jaylen Watson replacement and without him, Kansas City's secondary is suddenly perilously thin.

With the trade deadline just one week away, Brett Veach is running out of time to make his final improvements to the roster for the rest of the season. Since the Chiefs could become the first team to ever win three straight Super Bowls, it's a critically important decision.

One new projected trade sees Kansas City add a former first-round defensive back who fell out of favor with his current team. Considering Veach's history of adding failed high draft picks, it makes a ton of sense for both parties.

Chiefs Land Packers CB Eric Stokes in Projected Trade After Nazeeh Johnson Injury

Stokes

This isn't the most exciting transaction in the world but it'd give Steve Spagnuolo some much-needed depth in the secondary. At six-foot-one and 195 pounds, Stokes has the size that Spagnuolo covets and the pedigree that Veach targets.

A former Georgia standout who had four interceptions in nine games as a junior, Stokes had 14 deflected passes in his rookie season but has been hampered by injuries over the last few years. He's an afterthought in the Packers' rotation right now, earning only 13% of the snaps last week before struggling in Week 8.

It's clear he needs a change of scenery. Kansas City can provide that, putting the pending free agent in a system that can maximize his talents and let him rebuild his value while competing for a ring.

Stokes allowed just a 71.9 passer rating when targeted in coverage during his rookie season. Things have fallen off in recent years following the injury but he's the perfect kind of low-cost target who could recapture his promise in the right environment.

Veach will be active this week in finding upgrades. Stokes just might be the perfect fit.
