Chiefs WR Mecole Hardman suffered an unexpected injury prior to Friday's practice ahead of a Week 14 showdown with the Los Angeles Chargers.

His status is now in question for Sunday Night Football, which would mean another blow to a wideout group that's already been plagued by injuries. While used in limited fashion, Hardman has been an effective weapon.

With Kansas City already purposefully limiting DeAndre Hopkins' snaps, it looks like Xavier Worthy, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Justin Watson will all have to step up.

Chiefs WR Mecole Hardman Suffers Injury Before Chargers Game

Despite Reid playing coy, it was reported the team intended to start D.J. Humphries at left tackle after a truly disastrous performance from Wanya Morris in Week 13.

Along with the second cornerback starter, left tackle has been the largest issue with this team. Patrick Mahomes is under constant duress. At least so far, it appears both Morris and Kingsley Suamataia were poor draft picks by the franchise.

Either way, Hardman's injury could loom large. He has 20 punt returns and five kick returns on the year, meaning another player will need to step up on special teams. Xavier Worthy is an accomplished returner who Dave Toub has compared to Tyreek Hill. Perhaps this will be Worthy's first real chance to make an impact on the forgotten third.

During the season, Hardman has 12 catches for 90 yards along with five rushes for 62 yards and a TD. He's a reliable contributor though and his potential absence just adds to a long list of major injuries the Chiefs have dealt with.

Even still, Kansas City is a 3.5-point favorite over Los Angeles at FanDuel Sportsbook. It'll be a challenge though the Chiefs should win regardless.
