Chiefs Listed as Threat to Steal Playmaker From Rival This Offseason

As the Kansas City Chiefs prepare for another Super Bowl duel with the Philadelphia Eagles, some fans are already looking ahead to the team's offseason 'to-do' list.
There will be a lot of needs that general manager Brett Veach must address this offseason, especially when it concerns the running back room. As it stands, Isiah Pacheco and Carson Steele are the only running backs under contract for the 2025 NFL season as fellow RBs Kareem Hunt and Samaje Perine are set to hit free agency in March.
Assuming Hunt and Perine don't return, one NFL analyst is predicting that the Chiefs might turn to a rival AFC West player for help.
Chiefs Rumors: Could Kansas City Target RB Javonte Williams in Free Agency?
On Monday, Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox made a series of RB-related free agency predictions. Although he floats around the idea of the Chiefs re-signing Hunt, Knox also wouldn't be surprised if the defending Super Bowl Champions target Denver Broncos RB Javonte Williams.
Williams, 24, burst onto the scene with an electric rookie campaign in 2021. The pending Broncos free-agent RB dazzled recording 903 rushing yards on 203 carries and 316 receiving yards on 43 catches, scoring seven total touchdowns along the way.
Unfortunately, the former UNC Tar Heel suffered a horrific season-ending knee injury in 2022 and hasn't looked the same since then. His struggles continued into the 2024 season, finishing with 859 scrimmage yards and four total TDs on 191 carries across 17 games.

Even though his performances have trended downward, a move to Kansas City could turn Williams' career around.
After all, many NFL fans assumed Hunt's best days were behind him when he returned to the Chiefs after a six-year absence. The ex-Toledo RB used the opportunity to turn back the clock, turning 200 carries into 728 rushing yards and seven TDs in 13 games before posting a 25-108-2 stat line in Kansas City's first two postseason outings.
Joining a winning environment can bring out the best in a player, meaning Williams could experience similar success by replacing Hunt. The Chiefs also likely wouldn't have to break the bank to sign him based on his declining production.
Whether they're interested in Williams or not, the Chiefs can't negotiate with any outside free agents until Monday, March 10. In the meantime, Andy Reid & Co. will focus on winning a third consecutive Super Bowl in less than two weeks.
