4 Chiefs Who Need to Step Up Over Final Quarter of the Season
The Kansas City Chiefs' opportunity to chase a third straight Super Bowl victory is nearly here as only four weeks remain in the 2024 NFL regular season.
As the Week 15 schedule approaches, the Chiefs have done a terrific job of cementing themselves as Lombardi Trophy contenders this season. Andy Reid's team has fought to an AFC-best 12-1 record ahead of Sunday's clash with the Cleveland Browns and will look to do what it can to keep its foot on the gas pedal down the stretch.
Having said that, Kansas City's effort hasn't been perfect this season. Despite all of the positive results, certain players have performed below expectations. If the Chiefs are going to win yet another championship, those underperformers must find a way to elevate their efforts before it's too late.
With that being said, here are four Chiefs who must step up during the final regular-season games.
1. Travis Kelce, TE
If the Chiefs are going to add another championship banner to their collection, Travis Kelce needs to find a way to turn back the clock.
The 35-year-old tight end has looked like a shell of his former self this season, averaging a career-low 52.5 receiving yards per game. Although that's better than the average TE, it's a far cry from Kelce's usual performances. It also doesn't help that he only has two touchdowns through 13 games and hasn't found the back of the end zone since Week 10 against the rival Denver Broncos.
Kelce has had some solid performances this year, even hitting the 90-yard mark in back-to-back outings just over a month ago. At the same time, those showings are few and far between, and it's hard to know what to expect on a weekly basis because of it.
Hopefully, Kelce is just taking it easy in the regular season before emptying out his tank in the playoffs. The nine-time Pro Bowl TE knows how to get the job in the playoffs, proven by the fact that he has led the NFL in postseason receptions (132), receiving yards (1,478), and touchdowns (17) since 2019.
If the Chiefs are going to become the first three-peat dynasty in NFL history, Kelce needs to step up to help make it happen.
