KC Chiefs are running out of wide receiver options to sign in free agency
The KC Chiefs have missed out on the top wide receivers in free agency and there aren’t many remaining options to choose from.
It’s no secret that the Kansas City Chiefs are looking for a WR2 to complement Tyreek Hill. They’re likely losing Sammy Watkins and Demarcus Robinson in free agency and that gives them a group of Hill, Mecole Hardman, and Byron Pringle to work with (amongst some other lesser-known names).
The Chiefs have been pushing to sign another wide receiver in free agency, as it’s been reported that they missed out on JuJu Smith-Schuster and Josh Reynolds already. The buzz then turned to T.Y. Hilton, who also went in a different direction (though Hilton was never linked to the Chiefs officially).
With those three receivers claimed in free agency, there isn’t a great pool to choose from at this point, which isn’t good news for the Chiefs, who desperately need to add at least two more wide receivers before the start of the 2021 season.
The KC Chiefs need another wide receiver, but free agency may no longer be the right place to find one.

Per Matt Verderame’s tweet above, the remaining pool of wide receivers to choose from in free agency is less than stellar. Two of those guys were on the Chiefs’ roster the past few years and fans would not be all that excited if that’s who the team settled on for 2021.
A few names who Verderame didn’t include were Golden Tate, Adam Humphries, and Marquise Goodwin, who are all decent names. Tate is probably the only one in that bunch who could be considered a WR2 though. The Chiefs signing any of these guys would be something, but it definitely wouldn’t drum up much excitement from the Kingdom.
At this point, the Chiefs must be planning on heavily addressing the wide receiver position in the draft. While this might not mean they spend a first-round pick on one, a Day 2 selection might very well be in the cards. They’d also probably want to draft another one on Day 3 as well.
Free agency has mostly been disappointing for the Chiefs. Yes, they added Joe Thuney and are taking a flier on Kyle Long, but otherwise, it’s been quiet for this team despite them desperately needing to fill several positions. Wide receiver was a position that had plenty of talent in free agency, but the Chiefs struck out in adding one.
What are your thoughts on the Chiefs’ wide receiver situation at this point?
