The Kansas State Wildcats did nothing for themselves against Texas Tech on Saturday. They did however throw a cheap shot the Jayhawks way.

For a team sitting in fourth place, the Kansas State Wildcats are a confusing bunch. The Texas Tech Red Raiders made the Wildcats look tamed on Saturday, for the second time this season. All knotted up at halftime, the game looked to be a back and forth match until the end. The Wildcats never came back out of the tunnel.

Bruce Weber praised the Red Raiders after the game, but it was the lack of, well, everything, that Kansas State allowed their conference rival to dominate.

The Wildcats managed to only make five buckets in the second half. The Wildcats managed to only make five buckets in the second half. It bares repeating. They had 11 turnovers in the half. On the night as a whole they shot only 29% from the field.

More from KC Kingdom

With the Jayhawks losing earlier in the day, as well as West Virginia and Oklahoma, it’s as if the Wildcats lifted a middle finger to their in-state rivals. As if they were saying, don’t look our way for help.

Count on it, almost every Jayhawks fan out there was pulling for the Wildcats, and in pure Wildcat fashion, disappointed each of those fans.

On a much more serious note, they disappointed their own fans more. They put on a display of some of the worst basketball you will see this season. On their home court even. The Wildcats figured to be tournament bound, but with each lopsided loss they collect, the bubble continues to get smaller and smaller.

Up next

Other than Texas Tech, the teams in the Big12 are simply beating each other up. The chances of any of these teams making it past the first weekend is looking quite foggy.

The Wildcats have a bit of a favorable schedule on their hands, if one could call it that. Oklahoma is the only currently ranked team left. But with the way Baylor has been playing recently, as well as the likes of Oklahoma State, Texas, and TCU, nothing is a given in this years conference play.

The Wildcats have single-handedly made the Red Raiders look like a powerhouse this season. It will be a decision the selection committee will have to make when the time comes. Does a team that struggles so much against anyone with talent deserve to dance.
