The Kansas City Chiefs wrap up the 2017 regular season with a road game against the Denver Broncos. How does Madden see this game going down?

The only thing that Kansas City Chiefs fans care about this week is the debut of rookie quarterback Patrick Mahomes. The Chiefs jumped up to the tenth overall pick to select Mahomes and he’ll be getting his first real glimpse of NFL action this Sunday in the Mile High city.

Before we dive further into that, let’s check out how well Madden did when predicting last week’s game on Christmas Eve. The Chiefs played the Dolphins in what ended as a 29-13 Chiefs victory.

Madden thought the Chiefs would give their fans coal the day before Christmas by losing the game by ten points. According to the video game, Alex Smith would fail to reach 200 yards passing and Damien Williams of the Dolphins would trounce the Chiefs run defense for 100 yards on the ground.

So, Madden was wrong last week, but what did it predict for this weekend’s regular season finale? I was able to sub in Mahomes for Smith along with a lot of the other backups in for key starters, so let’s see just how well the younger guys fared against a five-win Broncos team.

FINAL SCORE – CHIEFS 24, BRONCOS 31

Well, there you have it, folks. The Chiefs might lose this game, but Patrick Mahomes comes out firing on all cylinders and out duels Paxton Lynch by a long shot (though to be fair, that probably isn’t difficult to do).

If this actually happened, Chiefs fans would lose their damn minds. We probably shouldn’t expect this kind of performance from Mahomes because it’ll be his first ever NFL game, he’s playing on the road, has mostly backups surrounding him, and is going against a pretty solid defensive unit in Denver.

I’m as excited about Mahomes mania as anyone, but this simulation is quite unrealistic. Mahomes could throw for two touchdowns, but I don’t see him going over 300 yards and making De’Anthony Thomas look like a legitimate NFL wide receiver.

Win or lose on Sunday, Mahomes mania is in full force in Kansas City and for good reason. Even if he performs poorly, it’s one game and the first he ever made in the NFL. Let’s give the kid some time before we jump to any conclusions on him.
