The Kansas City Chiefs can wrap up the AFC West battle this weekend in a home game against the Miami Dolphins. Does Madden think the odds are in Kansas City’s favor?

With an 8-6 record, the Kansas City Chiefs sit atop the AFC West and can make it to their third straight postseason by winning on Christmas Eve. The team coming into town hoping to prevent the Chiefs from reaching their goals is the Miami Dolphins.

The Dolphins are an inconsistent team, much like Kansas City is. They’ll look hot one week while knocking off the defending champion Patriots and the next week look pathetic versus the Bills.

Before we get into this week’s simulation, let’s check out how the video game did when predicting the Chiefs’ match-up with the Chargers.

The Chiefs absolutely crushed the Chargers at Arrowhead last Saturday. Madden predicted it’d be a ten-point victory for Kansas City and it was a much bigger victory than that.

Alex Smith and Kareem Hunt both had good games and Philip Rivers did not do as well as the game predicted. He threw three picks and has now thrown six total against the Chiefs. Talk about a team having your number.

Now let’s take a look at what this week’s game could have in store for us.

DOLPHINS STATS

Well, the Chiefs couldn’t get much going in this simulation, showcased by the final score and the offensive stats. Smith threw the ball 40 times, but couldn’t pass the 200 yard mark. Kareem Hunt, who is easily the biggest piece on the offense, didn’t make it to 100 yards on the ground, which is problematic for a team depending on him to carry them.

While I’m certainly not counting the Miami Dolphins out of this game, I don’t think they’ll beat Kansas City by ten points. I feel like if I simmed again, the Chiefs would win nine times out of ten.

If Madden is correct and the Chiefs do lose this game, the AFC West title will be a lot tougher to obtain. It’s unlikely that the Chargers fall to the Jets this week and next week, Kansas City heads to Denver while the Bolts get to host Oakland. That’d definitely favor Los Angeles to win out and win the division.

Hopefully none of this matters and the Chiefs prove Madden wrong. It has happened many times before.
