Through false hope and blind faith, the fans of the Kansas City Chiefs have been fooled once again into thinking they have a team that can compete for a Super Bowl.

When the 2017 season was still young, the Kansas City Chiefs looked like they would blossom into a team worth rooting for. So much potential was seen in the young 2017 Chiefs, that Super Bowl predictions, MVP discussions and power rankings were all led by Kansas City. As the season grew into its adolescence, the Chiefs were overcome by too many mistakes, horrible mindset, and pitiful play selection. After 13 weeks, we gather here to lay to rest the Kansas City Chiefs.

The obituary

The one thing fans need to learn from the collapse of the Chiefs is to forget the winning streak at the beginning of the year. It doesn’t really matter when those wins come during the season, as long as they come. Fans should remember the downfall however. It, by all means should be fresh in their minds.

Spread those early wins throughout the season instead of all bunched up and it would be clear to everyone that Kansas City just isn’t that good as a team. There is talent on this team, but not near enough. There is coaching on this team, but it is clearly absent as of late.

Either way the Chiefs are 6-6 and in danger of not only losing the division lead, which they don’t deserve to have, but missing the playoffs all together. Inconsistency has now reared its ugly head into the Chiefs organization. If the offense plays well, the defense misses the flight. If the defense plays well (on the rare occasion), the offense fails to matriculate down the field.

Look at the previous game for example.

J-E-T-S

How on earth did the Chiefs allow themselves to lose this game? Alex Smith throws for over 350 yards and four touchdowns. Tyreek Hill has over 150 yards receiving and two touchdowns. Travis Kelce played for a half basically and scored two touchdowns.

The defense is how. They have found a way to out-do themselves. Their worst performance of the season and equally as embarrassing as the Oakland debacle.

This loss cemented the foundation of the argument that the Chiefs just aren’t that good. It’s obvious if you have watched them. Three straight head wounds can’t be overcome in the way of losses to the Giants, Bills and Jets. Teams that just shouldn’t be able to beat Kansas City. Or should they?

On December 3rd, 2017, the Chiefs stop fighting for their lives and succumbed to the darkness.

Preceded and Survived

The Kansas City Chiefs were preceded in death by Kareem Hunt’s rookie season, the possibility of seeing Patrick Mahomes, and playoff ticket sales.

They were survived by the eventual firing of Bob Sutton, the retirement of Tamba Hali, the epic departure of Alex Smith, the release of Dee Ford, the yellow souvenir the lucky Jets fan left the game with and the extra Christmas presents that can be afforded since it is likely the Chiefs miss the playoffs.
