Count on the Kansas City Chiefs to break your hearts. The once perfect 5-0 team is now 6-6, with an uphill battle to get back on track.

At one point of the season, the Kansas City Chiefs stood atop of the metaphorical “Mountain of Success”. On top of this mountain lies a shiny Lombardi trophy inside of a trophy case, waiting for the Chiefs to open it up, and take it home.

Week five, the whole entire Chiefs team was cheering so loud, as head coach Andy Reid takes the key out of his pocket, and is about to unlock this trophy case. The best team in the NFL is the Kansas City Chiefs, and they knew this was the season everyone has been waiting for.

Reid inserts the key into the keyhole, and turns the key. The lock then unlocks, and the door is about to open, until…

A loud crashing sound of thunder startles the whole team, sends them rolling down the mountain, while the rest of the NFL fan-bases are sitting there laughing at the disgusting downfall. We can call this downfall week 6-13 for the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Uphill Climb

From here on out, the Chiefs find themselves battling uphill, in the wind, and rain, with 100 pound weights strapped to each one of their ankles. Not to mention the ground is very muddy, and they are walking barefoot.

Alright, enough with the metaphorical talks – I understand. the Chiefs are now a joke, and I do not see how the team can make up for this discouraging last few weeks. If the team were to make it back to where they once were, they must find ways to get rolling, and to get rolling fast.

Through week 13, the Chiefs sit right at .500 and without bold adjustments to the strategy, and personnel, the team will continue to lose.

There Is Still Hope

A tiny sliver of light gleams ahead in a dark tunnel for the Chiefs. 6-6 is not a bad record, but there needs to be some corrections. The reason to stay optimistic is this is just about the same team that went 5-0. The players are there, the coaches are there, and the chemistry remains the same.

The losing boils down to execution, and discipline. These two key concepts must change in order to get back in track.

Kansas City very well could make the playoffs still, thanks to the hot start, and the interesting NFL playoff set-up. The division is unfortunately wide-open now, but that does not mean the it does not still belong to the Chiefs.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

If the team can get back to their old ways, then the team should be able to win out this season. But, if things stay the same on the football field – the team very well could finish the season 6-10. That is the beauty of football.

Many things need to happen for the Chiefs to win next week against the Raiders. Next week’s game is huge, and a must-win.If the team can beat the Raiders, it will give the Chiefs momentum entering the final stretch of the season.

Expect the team to get on track and win the final few games, but at the same time – do not get your hopes up. The Kansas City Chiefs are 6-6, and still have a chance to make the postseason. The 2017 season is not quite over, but the time is running out for the Chiefs to get back on track.
