The Kansas City Chiefs can’t even suck right

The Kansas City Chiefs aren’t doing many things right recently. They aren’t good at being bad either. It’s time for the Chiefs to act as bad as they are.

The Kansas City Chiefs looked like the diamond of the NFL early on, turns out they were just fool’s gold. The Chiefs have managed to become the most confusing, weird and disappointing teams in the NFL. In fact they are one of the most talked about teams in football, for all the wrong reasons. The Chiefs are an embarrassment for their fans. As unlikely as all of this dialogue was six weeks ago, reality is that the Chiefs suck. And they can’t even succeed at sucking.

When a team is struggling to win games over halfway through the season, what do they tend to do? They start making personnel changes. They start making coaching changes and start to look forward to next season and the future that’s coming after. So why are the Chiefs exempt from doing the same?

Perhaps it’s the fact that the Chiefs have a winning record still? Pay no attention to the reality of losing five of the last six, the lone win coming thanks to the Denver Broncos sharing the ball so often. Without the endless sharing, the Chiefs would be 5-6 at the moment. Releasing Ross Travis and adding an aged cornerback is not the personnel changes either of us know I’m talking about here.

I wouldn’t imply a coaching change, but if anyone were to suggest a different play caller I would be on board, as would all of Chiefs Kingdom. I’ve mentioned before that Andy Reid is a genius only when developing plays, not when calling them. The play selection has become dull and boring, choreographed and repetitive.

So…..

What is it that teams do when they can’t produce or win games? They make a bold change. The N.Y. Giants just did so with Eli Manning, benching him for a N.Y. Jets reject in Geno Smith. My gosh, Geno Smith?

Media likes to tell you that benching a quarterback while having a winning record is preposterous, and I agree if said team is winning. The Kansas City Chiefs are the worst winning team in the history of the NFL. Week after week the Chiefs look worse and worse, as incompetent as can be imagined.

The Chiefs have no choice to make but start Patrick Mahomes. Of course the Chiefs are in a different boat than the Giants, but the quality of play is even. Mahomes would provide a spark instantly, something that this team is in desperate need of. Andy Reid is supposedly a throwing coach, so why on earth is his quarterback Alex Smith. Especially with Mahomes in waiting.

The running game has struggled for weeks. Much of those struggles can be directed toward the fact that Smith is playing afraid, or so it seems. Weeks ago it was Reid’s fault for not getting carries, now Hunt can’t get out of the backfield.

In closing.

It’s a chain reaction of events, and it all starts with the quarterback. The Chiefs refuse to play Mahomes, who would instantly open up the run game due to the respect the defense would have for his arm. Can you imagine the Chiefs offense as a fine oiled machined again. The 50 yard runs by Hunt, the 60 yard bombs from Mahomes to Hill? Picture the eruption of the crowd when Patrick Mahomes trots out onto the field, the decibels in Arrowhead Stadium when he hurls the ball for the first time.

Remember the reaction of the Chiefs sideline when Mahomes was leading this team in the preseason? Don’t tell me the spark would not ignite this team. All the Chiefs have to do as a team that now sucks is suck right, and there are no signs of that happening anytime soon.
