Quarterback: A-

Alex Smith has not disappointed this season. He currently leads the NFL in QBR, and is in the top five of every major category for quarterbacks. Five more touchdown passes and he’s thrown as many touchdown passes as he ever has in a single season, 23.

Smith has already thrown for more touchdowns than he did last season, and to date, he’s only thrown one interception. That interception came in desperation time, if you’re looking for excuses.

He opened the season with possibly the best game he’s ever had at any level. After the Chiefs drafted the future of the team in Patrick Mahomes, Alex Smith has been a different quarterback. Smith was near perfect in an unlikely beat down of the Patriots. He showed no fear in throwing downfield, hitting multiple targets deep. Alex finished 28/35 for 368 yards and four touchdown passes.

Smith’s total numbers on the season so far have him in the MVP conversation this season. He’s thrown for 2,444 yards with 18 touchdowns and that one interception. Despite his numbers trending downward Smith still deserves an A on his report card.
