Way Too Early Starting Five

Center: Udoka Azubuike

Udoka Azubuike is the one player that I am the most excited about. As a freshman, Azubuike was forced out with a wrist injury and became one of those players that it was tough seeing on the sideline. While Azubuike was very raw for the few times he played, his talent was definitely worthy of a NBA career after his freshman season.

More from KC Kingdom

Azubuike averaged five points, 4.4 total rebounds, and a 62.9 field goal percentage during his shortened 2016-2017 campaign. These numbers can’t really be used as true measurements of Azubuike’s ability, but a sample size of what he is capable of. It will be very exciting for Azubuike to hit the floor and be a major presence under the rim.

Like I said before, this lineup looks like a return to what Bill Self is famous for. With Azubuike, Billy Preston, and Jack Whitman, the Jayhawks should be set for a dominating season down low in the Big 12 and beyond.

Bill Self sure knows how to build the paint, and it seems like he has a knack for the backcourt as well with Malik Newman, Devonte’ Graham, and Lagerald Vick.

Whether it is this year or next year, KU Basketball seems to put up a roster that always excites.

This year the top prospects to look for are Malik Newman, Billy Preston, and Udoka Azubuike. Next year more prospects and transfers will show their faces on the starting lineup. Bill Self seems to corral all the likes of them and brings them to the court for another Big 12 title.
