The Kansas City Chiefs may look to churn the roster at tight end in the NFL Draft. Tyrone Swoopes of Texas is an interesting option to keep an eye on.

There is no doubt that the Kansas City Chiefs would like to get more production out of their tight ends. Sure, Travis Kelce is a super star, but the rest of the group can do much better. Adding Tyrone Swoopes from Texas to the mix might help give the Chiefs a boost at the position.

The Chiefs need to especially get more production from their second and third tight ends. That is Demetrius Harris and James O’Shaughnessy respectively. Harris has provided some clutch moments for Kansas City, but also his share of boneheaded ones. O’Shaughnessy, on the other hand, has provided no moments to speak of.

John Dorsey and his staff need to find a way to get the pressure off of Travis Kelce. Teams are keying in on him because they don’t have to respect another tight end. Dorsey has told fans to be patient with Demetrius Harris, but that can only go so far.

The Chiefs have shown that they like to work with developmental projects at the tight end position. Both Demetrius Harris and Ross Travis fall under that umbrella. However, the team needs to keep churning the roster to make sure they are improving at every position. Tight end is in big need of that.

It’s easy for people to forget about Tyrone Swoopes as a tight end prospect because he played quarterback in college. However, the athletic former passer showed some real maturity in putting aside his old position for what gave him the best chance to succeed. This is a project player that many will keep an eye on.

Tyrone Swoopes is a big man who runs with a lot of power. Naturally gifted athlete with decent speed, quickness, and explosion in his running. Shows the ability to leap over low-attacking defenders. Swoopes should be able to pick up on routes quickly from having to throw them as a quarterback.

The negatives on Tyrone Swoopes are simply that he has never played tight end. It’s impossible to really know what you’re getting here. He could stand to add a few more pounds, but it’s not essential.

While I think the Kansas City Chiefs should be looking for a more stable option to bring in, I have to admit there is a lot to like about Tyrone Swoopes. Plus, the Chiefs have shown a willingness to bring in projects before. If they were to get Swoopes as a seventh round pick, you could hardly call it a waste of effort.

The Kansas City Chiefs need to make some kind of a move to improve the depth chart at tight end. John Dorsey has shown that he likes to target project players at the position. However, this may be a time that calls for a more reliable option…or maybe it doesn’t.
