Mizzou basketball hasn’t had a fun season by any means, but the fans had themselves a grand old time when the Kentucky Wildcats came to Columbia on Tuesday night. John Calipari was the target of Mizzou’s anger.
It’s been a long, long, LONG season for the Missouri Tigers and their fans and they haven’t had much fun during this current stretch that their basketball team is in right now. The team has been atrocious against the SEC, and just in general as well.
Sitting at 7-19 before Tuesday’s game against the 11th-ranked Kentucky Wildcats, this has been yet another horrible season for Tiger fans. It’s clear the hiring of Kim Anderson was a mistake and that the school will be searching for yet another coach at the end of the season.
With all of that said, however, Mizzou fans made the most out of their misery by getting into the opponent’s head a bit.
Somehow, the Tigers only trailed by one-point heading into the locker room on Tuesday. Kentucky head coach John Calipari, who always seems to be disliked wherever he goes, was in the middle of an interview with ESPN. The reporter asked him one question and as he was answering, Missouri fans were chanting, “Cal, you suck!” as loud as possible.

He seemed visibly flustered by the chanting and once the reporter asked him about the environment, he ran off to join his team in the locker room.
I know I probably shouldn’t condone Missouri fans for this, but I actually found it to be pretty funny. Here’s an opposing coach who most schools dislike and Mizzou fans were just letting them know how they feel about him.
Of course, Calipari and his Wildcats got the last laugh, winning by ten points and handing Mizzou basketball their 20th loss of the season and 13th conference loss. The only worse team than the Tigers in conference play is LSU, who’s only won one game in the SEC so far.
It’s been a bad season for the Missouri Tigers, but this was something that the fans could bond over. They all are miserable right now yet are still determined to make sure John Calipari knows that he sucks… at least according to Tiger fans.
With only a few more games left in the regular season, Missouri will likely be letting Kim Anderson go and beginning the hiring process again. Hopefully this next one will be better for the program and can lead them on a successful path.
