Mizzou Basketball: The Nightmare Continues for Tigers
Mizzou basketball proved once again on Thursday night that there is no rock bottom for them, losing to Lipscomb on their home court. This team is heading in the entirely wrong direction and it seems like it will never end.
From 2008-2012, the Mizzou basketball team was competitive. They made it to the NCAA Tournament during each of those five seasons, reaching as far as the Elite Eight in 2009.
Ever since head coach Mike Anderson jilted the Mizzou fan base to go and coach at Arkansas, things have not gone very well for the Missouri Tigers when it comes to basketball.
Frank Haith took over after Anderson departed and was not good for the program to put it politely. He left for Tulsa after three seasons as Mizzou’s head coach.
Watching Mizzou play is not fun. They don’t really do anything well and at times, it looks like they couldn’t care less about the outcome of the game.
Once Haith was gone, fans voiced that former player Kim Anderson would be a good choice for the Tigers to hire as their next head coach. Mike Alden listened and hired Anderson to lead the Missouri Tigers in the next chapter.
It’s been a total disaster for Mizzou basketball under Kim Anderson.
Now look, I like Kim as much as the next person. He led my alma mater to a championship in the season before he took the MU job, so yeah, I like the guy and think he’s a good coach. Clearly it’s not working out for him in Columbia though.
Since Anderson has taken over, the Missouri Tigers have not won a single game on the road. They’ve only won six SEC games since Anderson arrived, which is especially sad considering how the SEC is not a basketball conference at all (minus Kentucky, of course).
This season alone though most definitely takes the cake as far as bad seasons go.
For starters, Mizzou has lost at home to North Carolina Central, Eastern Illinois, and just recently, Lipscomb. Losing these games is bad enough as it is, but to lose at HOME is on a whole other level of embarrassment. I guess the silver lining is that no one is showing up to games in the first place, so is anyone really witnessing it?

On top of all of the losing games aspect, the team is also losing players.
Since Anderson has arrived to Columbia, 13 players have transferred elsewhere, according to Jonathan McKay of The Missourian. Thirteen freaking players. Enough guys have transferred that they could form their own separate team, and I bet you that team could beat Missouri.
Watching Mizzou play is not fun. They don’t really do anything well and at times, it looks like they couldn’t care less about the outcome of the game. They’ve quit on their coach and it’s really hard to make a case as to why Kim Anderson should stay the head coach for Mizzou basketball.
Sure, the argument is “Who else do you want?”, but at this point, anyone will do. The Kim Anderson era clearly isn’t going to be a positive one for Missouri fans and he needs to be relieved of his duties before the end of the season or else fans are going to be hard to find.
It’d be different if MU had experienced even one decent season under Anderson, but that hasn’t been the case. The Tigers won 19 games during his first two season and have only won five in non-conference play this season. Not good.
It’s really difficult to get excited about the Tigers’ chances heading into conference play, as they’ve won a whopping SIX games against the SEC in the past two seasons. I’d personally be shocked if they could win more than one game in the conference this season. They’re that bad.

All I can say at this point heading into the new year is to keep the faith. It’s hard to imagine things getting any worse than what they are now for Mizzou basketball and maybe a simple coaching change will put this university back on the right track.
Until that day comes, however, things are going to continue to go south for this program, and that’s unfortunate.
