The KU basketball team takes the floor on Tuesday against the Long Beach State 49ers Tuesday night at Allen Fieldhouse.

The Kansas Jayhawks are on a five-game winning streak and are coming off their biggest margin of victory of the season (38 points) against UNC Asheville this past weekend.

The 49ers are just 1-7 but have played an absolutely brutal schedule. They have lost their last seven, all on the road, many against some of the nation’s top schools.

Long Beach State has already played at Wichita State, Washington, North Carolina, Louisville, and UCLA. They’ve also traveled to Florida, where they’ve lost to Binghamton and Florida Gulf Coast. They’ve logged a lot of miles already this season!

Kansas, after staying close to home for their last four games, should be better rested than they were a week ago.

More from KC Kingdom

Frank Mason III is coming off a terrific game against UNC Asheville. He dropped in 21 points, due mainly to a five-for-five night behind the arc, and he recorded five rebounds and five assists.

Lagerald Vick added 15 points while leading the team with nine rebounds.

The Jayhawks are still not getting the production they need from their big men. Carlton Bragg Jr. and Landen Lucas combined for 24 minutes, ten points, nine rebounds, no blocks, and four fouls against UNC Asheville.

The upside may be limited for the Kansas Jayhawks if they have to rely so heavily on the backcourt to carry them. It might be tough once conference play begins for the guards to carry this team every night.

Bill Self started youngsters Vick and Azubuike, who combined for 32 points and 12 rebounds. These two might remain starters if Bragg and Lucas can’t turn things around significantly.

In other KU basketball news, Josh Jackson was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week for the second time.

Long Beach State shouldn’t offer the Kansas Jayhawks much of a challenge, but it should allow Self to work on some specific things and maybe find away to get some players on track.
