KC Chiefs: Loss to Broncos Will Make Division Title Difficult

The KC Chiefs are heading to Mile High Stadium on Sunday night for a primetime affair with the World Champion Denver Broncos. Words cannot express how important this game is for both teams’ AFC West title hopes.

The Kansas City Chiefs are 7-3 right now, but somehow that record isn’t good enough for them to be leading their own division.

No, the Raiders are actually leading the AFC West right now at 8-2 and the Chiefs have the head-to-head advantage over them. That’s why Kansas City HAS to win on the road this Sunday against the Broncos.

A loss on Sunday isn’t the end of the world by any means, but it’ll put a huge dent in the Chiefs winning the division. They’d have the head-to-head with Oakland, but what good does that do if they have a worse record than them?

The Chiefs and Broncos currently both sit at 7-3, and the Broncos are coming off of a bye week. Their defense isn’t nearly as top notch as it was a season ago, but they’re still one of the better units in the league.

Kansas City, however, lost a game they should have won when they hosted the Buccaneers last weekend. They haven’t lost two games in a row since last October, but their offense has had trouble scoring and their defense is pretty banged up.

The Chiefs have also had their fair share of problems against Denver over the past few years. They’ve only won once against them in the current regime of John Dorsey, Andy Reid, and Alex Smith, but that one was more or less handed to them due to the poor play of the Broncos quarterbacks.

While Denver doesn’t have a great offense this year, they get the home field advantage on Sunday. Home field advantage in Denver is a big deal, as their fans are loud and passionate, and the Chiefs tend to not play well in those type of environments.

Kansas City has been terrible on Sunday Night Football, which is something that makes me nervous. Their poor performances against Denver and on primetime television will make this an increasingly difficult game to win.

Oakland will face the Panthers in the Black Hole and that very well could give them their ninth victory on the season. If the Raiders win on Sunday and the Chiefs lose to Denver, they’ll be two games behind for the division lead. That’d be brutal.

The good news is that there will still be five games left after this weekend’s games so the Chiefs can still attempt to win out and hope the Raiders and Broncos choke along the way. They still need to do all they can to make sure they win in Denver this weekend though. That’d be the easiest scenario.
