The KU basketball team will attempt to win the Collge Basketball Experience Hall of Fame Classic Tuesday night against the Georgia Bulldogs.

The Kansas Jayhawks reached the finals of the CBE Hall of Fame Classic with a 20-point victory over UAB in the semi-finals. After jumping out to an early 25-3 lead, the Blazers made a game of it before halftime and outscored the Jayhawks after that early stretch.

Fatigue could be a factor against Georgia. The three starting Kansas guards averaged more than 34 minutes in the UAB game. This is the Jayhawks’s fifth game in 11 days, so KU will need to overcome Georgia with some tired, beat-up bodies.

The Bulldogs have won three games since losing their opener to Clemson.

The Jayhawks need to find a way to get their inside game on track. They got just a measly ten points from their five big men in 59 total minutes against UAB. Bill Self needs to find out a way to induce more production from his frontcourt players.

On the other hand, his backcourt was fantastic against the Blazers. The Jayhawks got 73 points from their guards and forwards, even though Lagerald Vick scored none in his first bad game of the year.

Kansas also needs to reduce their fouling. For the third time in four games, the Jayhawks committed 21 fouls or more.

Another big weakness is their free throw shooting. KU shot under 50 percent for the second time this season. Miraculously, they won both of those games (Duke was the other). This will certainly come back to bite them if they don’t improve mightily soon.

The three freshmen – Josh Jackson, Udoka Azubuike, and Mitch Lightfoot – are shooting just 37 percent (10-27) from the charity stripe thus far. OUCH!!!

This could be a dangerous game for the KU basketball team. Georgia has nothing to lose, and they haven’t shared the Jayhawks’ brutal travel schedule.

If the Kansas Jayhawks can get better performances from their interior players, can not foul so much, and shoot better from the free throw line, they should come away with the CBE Hall of Fame championship!
