The KU basketball season is starting off with a bang as the Jayhawks play the Indiana Hoosiers on Friday night.

It’s KU basketball season! Hope you are ready as they begin the jourey toward another Big 12 Conference regualr season championship and maybe even another national title.

The Kansas Jayhawks will take on the Indiana Hoosiers as part of the State Farm Armed Forces Classic in Hawaii. Both schools start the season highly ranked, and this should be a great matchup.

Kansas is ranked third in the AP poll and second in the coaches’ poll. Indiana sits 11th in the AP and is placed 12th by the coaches.

Matchups like this are what fans love early in the season – national powerhouses going toe to toe. This should be an entertaining game, but don’t be surprised if both teams aren’t as sharp as they will be later in the season.

The Kansas Jayhawks scored an average of 98 points in their two exhibition games against teams with vastly less talent. It is difficult to know exactly how the Jayhawks will look against a quality opponent like the Hoosiers.

More from KC Kingdom

They committed 24 turnovers in the first outing but cut that number down to 11 in the second game. Kansas will need to keep that number down as they go up against teams like Indiana and Duke.

One worry the Jayhawks may have is the inexperience they have in the front court. After Landen Lucas, they don’t have any players who’ve seen the court much in a Jayhawks’ uniform.

Freshmen Udoka Azubuike and Mitch Lightfoot looked better in the second exhibition than they did in their first. Azubuike, though, has committed eight fouls in his first two outings.

Bill Self may need Lucas and Calton Bragg Jr to play a lot of minutes early on until those youngsters can get acclimated to the faster pace of the college game.

The Jayhawks’ strength coming into the regular season appears to be their backcourt, led by starters Frank Mason III, Devonte’ Graham, and Josh Jackson. They are complimented by reserves Lagerald Vick and Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk.

If this unit struggles, the team is going to falter, but with the depth and experience of this group, Kansas should control the tempo of most games.
