KC Chiefs fans are probably pretty irritated with how poorly their team played on Sunday against the lowly Jacksonville Jaguars. Don’t be though. This is still a good football team.

Look, I get it Chiefs fans. The Kansas City Chiefs looked like hot garbage on Sunday afternoon against the then 2-5 (now 2-6) Jacksonville Jaguars and it was way too close of a game for a team wanting to contend for the postseason.

I’m here to cheer all of you up though. This team is not as bad as their Sunday performance indicated.

First of all, the injuries were a huge part of why the Chiefs faltered so much in this one. Alex Smith missed this game due to two big hits he took against the Colts last week. Spencer Ware was out with a concussion as well.

Those two injuries were big enough for the Chiefs to overcome, as Nick Foles and Charcandrick West then had to step up.

Some in-game injuries took place though with Jeremy Maclin having to exit early on due to re-aggravating his groin.

With Maclin out, Albert Wilson had to step into a bigger role (as we saw Foles liked to frequently target him) and that’s just not something he was ready for.

Travis Kelce was ejected from the game in the fourth quarter due to throwing a towel at the referee for not calling a pass interference penalty earlier on. That hurt the team as well, though Kelce only had five catches in the game for a little over 50 yards.

At the end of the day, this was a terrible performance by the KC Chiefs, but it’s not something that fans should concern themselves with a whole lot. The starting quarterback was out so it was expected for the backup to struggle.

The defense stepped up for the most part, but the run defense was horrendous, allowing Chris Ivory to look like a super star. Once Justin Houston comes back, that should help the run defense a bit.

Speaking of Houston, he and Dee Ford will make quite the pair when it comes to pressuring the quarterback. That’s definitely something to get excited about.

This Kansas City Chiefs team is the most complete team in the NFL (at least according to The MMQB) and this game was just a slip-up. They still won the game, mainly due to the defense doing their part in forcing turnovers.

It was definitely a lucky break that the Chiefs got to play the Jaguars in a week where injuries were killing them the most.

So, yes Chiefs fans, this game was bad, but the team still came out on top even without their starting quarterback, running back, wide receiver, tight end, and left guard. They overcame those losses and still won the ball game.

That’s something to be optimistic about.
