The Kansas City Chiefs staff updated Chiefs reporters of new injuries today. Unfortunately, Tyler Bray and Charcandrick West got hurt.

The Kansas City Chiefs suffered a couple of injuries to notable players over the weekend. Quarterback, Tyler Bray, sustained a chip fracture in his spine. It sounds a lot worse than it actually is according to Kansas City Chiefs trainer, Rick Burkholder.

Bray received the injury after he got slammed to the ground in the first preseason game on Saturday afternoon at Arrowhead Stadium. There is no timetable on his return to the practice field.

The Bray injury could have been a blessing in disguise for the KC Chiefs. Kansas City currently has five quarterbacks on the roster. Now that Bray is injured, he could be put on injured reserve saving him or someone less from being cut for the time being.

Kansas City Chiefs beat reporter, Terez A. Paylor, reported the news via Twitter.

Running Back, Charcandrick West, also got injured. West suffered a mild elbow strain and sprain. He is listed as “literally day-to-day”. The injury doesn’t sound severe. Hopefully he’ll be ready by preseason game two this Saturday against the Los Angeles Rams on the road.

The KC Chiefs have a stable of running backs on the roster to take his place if West isn’t ready to play. Guys like: Spencer Ware, Knile Davis and Darrin Reaves will see more playing time during the next preseason game.

This could be great news. The Chiefs could find out who is worth keeping and they might be able to accumulate more good game film of guys they might trade. Of the guys listed above, I believe Knile Davis has the highest chance of being dealt sometime this season.

Jamaal Charles should be back ready to play week one of the regular season. This is encouraging news just in case West’s injury is more severe than expected. The Kansas City Chiefs will be just fine at the running back position regardless.

Another player that didn’t practice today is linebacker, Frank Zombo. His wife delivered a baby today. Apparently life goes on outside of football. What an exciting day for the Zombo family. That’s wonderful news to hear on a day filled with not so great news.

Thankfully, the Kansas City Chiefs have depth to overcome some of these injuries. Guys will have to step up and preform for this team to continue to work at getting better each day to make a run in the playoffs this season.

Hopefully no more injuries occur. The Chiefs are dealing with the Justin Houston and Tamba Hali injuries as well putting a lot of pressure on young players like Dee Ford and rookie Chris Jones to fill in while they are gone.

The depth on this team will keep the Chiefs in games. If the injuries stop here the Chiefs should count their blessings. The team must prepare for the worst and hope for the best. The fan base must do the same to avoid freak out mode.

Hopefully the injury news is a bit better next time around. Maybe we’ll hear that Charles and others can practice. Only time will tell.
