The KC Royals have had a headache of a season in 2016. Injuries and other freak incidents have been cause to a disappointing season for the boys in blue.

When the 2016 season began, many Kansas City Royals fans were wondering if this team was going to make it to a third consecutive World Series. It’s a difficult feat. Hell, making it to the playoffs at all in baseball is a difficult feat.

The Royals just haven’t had luck on their side in 2016. They lucked out with avoiding key injuries in 2014 and 2015, but this season all of that good karma has run out.

With more injuries that one could count on both hands, the Royals’ chances of making it to the playoffs have dwindled more as time passes.

They were just swept in a four-game series by the Texas Rangers and have looked lifeless since coming out of the All-Star break. The Royals only won seven games in July and their offense was non-existent.

Part of the problem all season long though has been within the starting rotation. Danny Duffy has been fantastic, but he was not an original member of the rotation. The rest of the starters are hanging between the 4-5 ERA range, and Chris Young averages at least 20 home runs a game (exaggerating obviously, but he’s been awful).

Flash forward to present day. The trade deadline was going on and the Royals were being speculated to try and ship Wade Davis off along with Ian Kennedy (who is due a ton of money over the next few years). Rather than Davis getting traded and the team acquiring some top notch prospects, Wade hits the disabled list and all hope is lost.

Luke Hochevar also hit the DL right before the trade deadline, meaning the Royals had no relievers to trade for prospects. Kennedy will stay with the team due to no one wanting to take on that contract, and Royals fans continue to be disappointed.

Now obviously this season isn’t as bad as what we went through before the team got good. This team isn’t going to lose 100 games. They’re not that bad, but they are bad, and that’s a tough pill to swallow after watching them compete in two World series and winning one of them.

They were the laughing stock of baseball for so long and then became relevant for the first time in forever. It just really doesn’t feel like the ride should be over so soon, but it most definitely is this season. Let’s hope the boys can compete at a higher level next season and that the injuries don’t plague this team again.

It’s just a different environment now with these Royals and the fans seem tired of it and ready for Chiefs football to begin now. I don’t blame them one bit.
